Leiko Ikemura exhibition in Valencia
Exhibition "Here we are"
Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias Valencia has a new project that accentuates the architecture of the aquatic landscape: six giant public sculptures float above the architectural landscape. Until March 6, 2022.
"In my work I encourage the fusion of nature with animals and plants as hybrid beings in space in an eternal circle of life" comments the artist about her work.
All the figures secretly hint at new and unknown creatures, a lyrical poetry within the framework of a structural epic surrounded by the architecture of the buildings of the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències.
The great sculpture "Usagi Greeting" represents a Bodhisattva-hare, the mother of all existences. This hybrid being is hollow inside with a slit in the front of the skirt. Its long ears are similar to antennas that indicate verticality, pointing towards the universe. The other pieces, also made in bronze and with subtle color patinas, consist of recumbent or reclining figures on light oval-shaped pedestals.
